Doodling Whooha with Pam Holland

Every year I pack up, leave the hubby behind, and go to one of the many international quilt festivals. If you're ever looking for inspiration they're awesome!

This April I went to the International Quilt Festival in Chicago at the Rosemont Convention Center and attended Pam Holland's class on scrapbook quilting. On my own I've been trying out different techniques of photo transfers to fabrics, but what I learned from Pam really helped me add dimension to my quilts. Her project for that day included heavy quilting. She talked about the types of threads and needles to use and demonstrated what happens when you use the wrong ones. Her work included drawing and stitching.

When I came home I messed around with the technique and put together this doodling project (on the right) with random stitching and whooha (a technical term), which I am calling "Is Your Heart In It."

I really like the results of the heavy quilting and have completed two wall hangings from another class using the technique and using the pattern in the fabric as the quilting design. This is just the start, but I think I will definitely keep messing with it and see where I end up.

Ok, I am ready to get serious about updating my blog. In my first post I talked about the faces that tried creating in fabric. I finally accomplished how to show scans of the blocks. It is now time for me to start quilting the faces. This has me absolutely afraid that they won't turn out perfect like the instructor's video, but I have gotten this far I won't stop now.

One face is my son Danny who lives in Japan and the second face is me.

Wish me success in completing my faces.
